Michael Buble’s Mariah Carey Cover Tops AC Chart

Michael Buble’s cover of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” does what the original never did: it reaches No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary radio airplay chart.

The remake bounds 10-1 in its third week on the AC tally, outperforming the No. 6 peak to which Carey’s version climbed the week of Jan. 7, 1995. Just past Thanksgiving, Buble’s version received airplay on 64 of the AC panel’s 76 stations in the chart’s tracking week, as the format makes its annual segue to a reliance on holiday music, a movement that intensified at the beginning of the 2000s.

Buble’s slower take than Carey’s jangly original “Christmas” marks his fourth AC No. 1, following “Home” (two weeks, 2005); “Everything” (three, 2007); and, “Haven’t Met You Yet” (three, 2010).

(Carey, meanwhile, is charting on AC with a new version of “Christmas.” Justin Bieber’s new duet of the song with Carey, from his seasonal set “Under the Mistletoe,” jumps 18-11 in its second week).

"When Christmas Comes" song review

As the creator of "All I Want for Christmas Is You", the only song of the past 20 years strong enough to become a holiday classic, Mariah Carey has an obvious talent for writing festive songs for the season. On "When Christmas Comes", she joins John Legend for a sultry duet about giving the gift of love.

Mariah's voice is strong as she harmonizes with Legend on the lines, "And me and you gon' have ourselves a holiday. And we don't need nobody else to celebrate. And we're gon' kiss our worries and our cares away. I can't wait. Because this Christmas time, get together. It's gonna be so nice, better than ever. And baby you're the one, special treasure."

"When Christmas Comes" features horns and piano accenting a simple R&B groove. Before the final chorus, as the singers freelance on a few bars of "Jingle Bells", listeners are treated to notes from the upper reaches of Mariah's five-octave range, which she rarely shows off anymore.

Some of the cutesy imagery falls flat, like, "I can't wait to unwrap your love." But otherwise, it's hard to find fault with the holiday duet from two of pop music's most powerful vocalists. The song is an improved version of the track that Carey performed solo on 2010's "Merry Christmas II You".

Mariah Carey Mania Rules Top 10

Adele's album 21 continues to set chart records, months after its release. Currently, the disc stands at #3 on the Billboard album chart, and it's never been out of the top five since it was released 39 weeks ago. That's a record: in the 55-year history of the chart, no other album has spent that many weeks in the top five since Michael Jackson's Bad, which did it for 38 straight weeks starting in September of 1987.

Elsewhere on the chart, Michael Buble's album Christmas holds at #2, and has a good shot at reaching #1 next week because of increasing sales week to week. Andrea Bocelli's Concerto: One Night in Central Park, featuring guest appearances by Tony Bennett and Celine Dion, debuts at number four, and Glee, the Music: The Christmas Album debuts at #6.

Billboard points out that there are now three, count 'em, three albums in the top 10 that feature a version of Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You." It's on Michael Buble's album, the Glee album and on Justin Bieber's Under the Mistletoe, which is currently at #5. That means a very Merry Christmas for Mariah when it comes to royalty checks.

Mariah Carey Tells OK!: “I Want to Be Healthy for My Kids”

Her twins, Moroccan and Monroe, were born in April — and while Mariah Carey swears she never knew exactly how many pregnancy pounds she'd gained, she's now proudly talking about how she lost them! After following the Jenny Craig plan for a little over three months, Mariah, 41, their brand ambassador, is thrilled with the results and sat down with OK! to talk about it.

How do you feel being in such great shape again?

Well, I think I'm in shape, but I'm still on my quest to work out — I want to be healthy enough where I can cheat, and it doesn't matter!

What are your cheat foods?

Well, in New York, Sicilian pizza. In Italy, pizza. I like french fries, too. You know, stuff like that. I also love pasta.

Why did you choose Jenny?

Being in this partnership with Jenny and the American Heart Association is an honor for me because I know that their intentions are really good. So many of their top women executives have had babies and know what pregnant women go through.

Do you ever cook for yourself?

Sometimes, I'd have a salad that I'd make for myslef. I had Jenny products and then I'd mixed it up a little bit. I would make stuff for myself, like salads and egg white omelets and things like that.

Do you work out?

I really went back into working out hard, kind of a bit early, so I think I have a lesson for everybody: Being conscious of your health is so important. I work really hard on my arms to get them strong and in shape, but one arm is a little less strong than the other because I'm dealing with carpal tunnel nerve issue. But it'll be fine. I just have to take care of it. I have to go to my physical therapist.

What's your plan to maintain the weight loss long-term?

Well, I had my babies, and now I work out and stay on my diet. And when you want to have a good day with food in terms of what you want to eat, you have that day, and then the next day, you go back to the program and work out a bit harder. It's just about discipline. Really disciplining yourself.

How important is diet and fitness now that you are a mom?

I think it's really important. I have to stay healthy for my kids and I want to set a good example for them. Not that they know anything now — they're only [7] months! They're not walking in, asking, "Mommy, what size are your jeans?" Nobody's doing that, but I think it's important. Health is always important. We tend to neglect that, and go for the easy fast food and things like that. But with Jenny there's portion control. You can get soups with only 50 calories, and you drink that, and at least for the moment, you're satiated. You're not starving. You're feeling good — and there are some nutrients in you. You can eat six little meals a day, and that was my thing. I just ate more, but smaller portions. I'm 5-foot-9 and curvy — this is what I look like and I feel good about myself.

Mariah hologram performs simultaneously in five cities

Mariah Carey has performed a concert in five European cities at once, in a Saatchi & Saatchi campaign created for Deutsche Telekom. Last night, the international star performed the simultaneous holographic concerts for the latest instalment of the "Life is for sharing" campaign.

Carey appeared before audiences in Germany, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Poland at the same time, in the form of a hologram that interacted with real dancers and live audiences. After a ten minute performance the hologram then exploded into the sky, before she led a rendition of "Silent Night" and concluded with "All I want for Christmas is You".

The project was led by Jason Romeyko, European creative director for Deutsche Telekom and an international team at Saatchi & Saatchi EMEA, including members of the agency in Poland, the UK, Macedonia, Montenegro, Germany and Croatia. Romeyko said: "This is 'Life Is For Sharing' at its superlative - an amazing moment that people be part of in so many different ways, all across the world."

Mariah Carey: "It's always heels, darling!"

Mariah Carey has pledged to never give up her heels. The singer had lost a whopping 30 pounds since welcoming twins Moroccan and Monroe with husband Nick Cannon in April. She said that now she's got her bod back, she won't be dressing down in flats.

"It's always heels, darling!" she joked to Life & Style. "It's not as easy as it used to be, but I'm back in my heels. A flat always makes me feel frumpy." The shoe-mad warbler has been known to wear stilettos on the StairMaster and in snowstorms and even has a specially-made wardrobe to house her 1,000 pairs.

But despite her fascination with footwear, she wants to keep her outfits tasteful so as not to embarrass the children. "I don't want my kids to be like, 'What the hell, mum'," she said. "But you have to be able to be an artist, be yourself and represent who you are through fashion."

Mariah and Nick outrageously expensive baby nurseries

Just like any proud parent would, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have been showing off photos of their babies to the world. Moroccan and Monroe - aka Roc and Roe, further aka "Our Little Crab Cakes", even further aka "Dem Babies" - look adorable in snaps posted by Carey to her Twitter page.

Of course, notwithstanding that Daddy often gets pulled by police, being the offspring of Carey and Cannon has its perks, and these twins are one privileged pair. Their perfectly-balance unisex nursery cost a whopping $100,000; while their cribs alone set the pair back $30,000.

"I wanted to create a beautiful, tranquil, cozy environment for the babies," Carey tells Life & Style magazine. "Everything matches, but pieces are individualized to celebrate the twins as separate entities."

Of course, since jetsetting Roc and Roe split their time between New York and California, they have two spectacular nurseries. In addition to a shot of the babies' nursery, complete with a giant "Dem Babies" balloon display, Carey also posted some studious photos of Monroe reading a book, and a rebellious photo of Moroccan looking like a rockstar. There's also a cute one of the "Little Crab Cakes" dressed in crustacean themed clothes.

Randy Jackson to Manage Mariah Carey

Randy Jackson is adding an A-lister to his dawg pound. The "American Idol" judge is negotiating a deal to manage Mariah Carey's career, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. The duo know each other from their Columbia Records days when Jackson was vice president of A&R during the 1990s and Carey was signed to the label from 1988 to 2001.

Over the years, Jackson has produced, co-written and appeared on many Carey recordings. He's also played bass for the superstar both in the studio and on the road. Among his Carey credits: Jackson wrote and produced two songs for her 2001 film, "Glitter". On her 2002 Island Def Jam debut "Charmbracelet", Jackson is listed as composer, producer and percussionist while on her 2005 smash "Emancipation of Mimi", he returned to play bass and also appears in the video to Carey's cover of Def Leppard's "Bringin' on the Heartbreak". Throughout her career, he has served as Carey's musical director and most recently, he produced her 2010 Christmas album, "Merry Christmas II You".

Carey, who gave birth to twins in April, was previously signed to Chris Lighty's Violator Entertainment, which represents such artists as 50 Cent, LL Cool J and Soulja Boy. In September, the company merged with Primary Wave, management home to Cee-Lo Green and Eric Benet.

Jackson is no stranger to the management game, having worked with funk-flavored rocker Nikka Costa, soul singer Van Hunt and North Carolina-based band Paper Tongues, who are signed to Universal Music-owned A&M/Octone Records. He's one of several notable musicians who also guide the careers of others. Back in the 1990s, when he was known as Puff Daddy, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs managed rapper Notorious B.I.G. More recently, he guided "Making the Band" winners Danity Kane and was reportedly working with Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross. Jay-Z, by virtue of running management company RocNation, has a hand in the careers of Rihanna and Willow Smith. Usher, in partnership with Justin Bieber manager Scooter Braun, can also lay claim to some of the pop phenom's success.

On November 2, Jackson was in full management mode as he accompanied Carey to film the music video for "All I Want For Christmas Is You", her duet with Bieber, which appears on his "Under the Mistletoe" album (out now). The nine-hour night shoot took place at Macy's Herald Square in New York City and, according to observers, Jackson stayed for the duration. A few days later, he was seen at Carey's label offices where he was taking meetings. Says a source: "He's very much in the mix."

First look: Mariah Carey's "When Christmas Comes" video

After teasing a Christmas song collaboration with John Legend a few days ago, Mariah Carey now reveals on-set pictures to preview a music video she filmed for the duet. Mariah excitedly wrote on Twitter, "It is so freakin' festive," and she later retweeted John's message which read, "Feeling festive a month early."
They filmed the video for a remix of "When Christmas Comes", a song taken from Mariah's "Merry Christmas II You". She and John are seen sharing laughs while sitting behind a grand piano in two of the pictures. In the other image, the new mom wears a red spaghetti dress and lies on a furry sheet.
A snippet of the revamped song has been posted by Mariah last Monday, November 7. "So that was a snippet of the RnB Christmas collabo - me and the legendary John, soon to be topping your Christmas list. P.S. It's a SGSHW," she informed her Twitter followers. The track is expected to come out in full sometime soon.
Beside lining up "When Christmas Comes" music video, the wife of Nick Cannon has shot a clip for Justin Bieber's remix of "All I Want for Christmas Is You". In a picture taken from the video shoot, the R&B diva looks gorgeous wearing a Santa Claus-themed outfit.

CAREY ON!

Justin Bieber was born the year that Mariah Carey first released 'All I Want for Christmas Is You.' Now their duet of the song is on the Hot 100!

With the help of an artist who was less than a year old when the song was originally released, Mariah Carey returns to the Billboard Hot 100 with an update of "All I Want for Christmas Is You."

Justin Bieber (born March 1, 1994) and Carey's duet of the song, parenthetically titled the "Superfestive!" version, arrives at No. 86 on the chart, as Bieber's seasonal set "Under the Mistletoe" becomes the first album by a male artist to launch at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

The original "Christmas" reached No. 12 on Radio Songs and No. 6 on Adult Contemporary in the 1994 holiday season. (Chart rules at the time prevented the non-commercially-available single from appearing on the Hot 100 that year).

Last week in New York, Mariah Carey and Justin Bieber shot the forthcoming video for their new version of "All I Want for Christmas Is You," which Carey first made a solo smash in 1994.

With the bow, Carey notches her 44th Hot 100 hit. Her prior visit was likewise Yuletide-themed: "Oh Santa!" spent a week at No. 100 last holiday season. (Before that, "Up Out My Face," which marked the second Hot 100 appearance for guest Nicki Minaj, also tallied a lone week at the chart's anchor position).

Here is an updated count of the women with the most charted titles, and their career chart spans, in the Hot 100's 53-year history:

73, Aretha Franklin, 1961-98
56, Dionne Warwick, 1962-98
55, Madonna, 1983-2009
53, Connie Francis, 1958-69
48, Brenda Lee, 1959-73
44, Mariah Carey, 1990-2011
41, Barbra Streisand, 1964-97
40, Diana Ross, 1970-86
39, Mary J. Blige, 1992-2010
39, Whitney Houston, 1984-2009
39, Janet Jackson, 1982-2008
39, Taylor Swift, 2006-11

(Notably, the digital era has helped Swift score multiple Hot 100 entries with album cuts the weeks that her last two studio sets, "Fearless" (2008) and "Speak Now" (2010), have debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. As she's due to arrive on next week's Hot 100 with multiple tracks from the forthcoming "Speak Now" re-issue, this list will likely appear in revised form in next week's "Weekly Notes" column).

"Christmas" has clearly become a modern holiday classic. In addition to Bieber and Carey's new duet, Michael Buble's take on the song, from his new album "Christmas," which ranks at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 after opening at No. 3 last week, is bubbling under the Adult Contemporary chart.

Last holiday season, Lady Antebellum sent its cover of "Christmas" to No. 38 on Country Songs; Newsboys' interpretation rose to No. 24 on Christian Songs; and, Big Time Rush's remake topped Kid Digital Songs. Carey's own 2010 re-recording of the carol peaked at No. 4 on Holiday Digital Songs last year.

Carey could soon impact Billboard charts with another holiday hit, a remix of "When Christmas Comes" (originally released last year on her holiday set "Merry Christmas II You") with John Legend.

"Coming soon, a legendary musical collabo. #WhenChristmasComes," Carey Tweeted Monday. "Me & the legendary John, soon to be topping your Christmas list! P.S. It's a SGSHW!"

(As Mariah Lambs know, SGSHW is shorthand for "stone groove smash hit wonder").

Mariah's "dem babies" look comfy and cosy

Their mother may have managed something of a shrinking act. But Mariah Carey's twins Moroccan and Monroe are getting bigger by the day. The cute twosome were spotted yesterday being chauffeured out of the Four Season Hotel in Manhattan, NYC, looking cosy in their carriers.

The siblings, who are now six months old, were bright eyed and wide awake as their minders loaded them into the car. Monroe looked too cute for words while sucking on her dummy and wearing a little red bow in her hair, booties and a pink blanket keeping her toasty. Her brother Moroccan, meanwhile, was wearing an orange coat, jeans and beige little shoes. He was dummy free and appeared to be taking interest in a toy duck which was hanging above him in his carrier.

Mariah 42 and husband Nick Cannon welcomed the twins - or "dem babies" as they affectionately call them - on April 30, the couple's third wedding anniversary. The songstress claims she has gone on to lose 70lbs since giving birth and yesterday took part in a photocall to promote her new role as the ambassador for diet company Jenny Craig.

Photos from the ad campaign - which show the singer revealing her taut abs in boob tube - have been met with suspicious, eyes however. While Mariah may have been working hard to get back into shape, the shots look like they may have benefited from a few strokes of the airbrush.

Mariah revealed she has embarked on a calorie-controlled diet under the Jenny Craig system, combined with exercise. She works out for 45 minutes five to six times a week with Sunday as a rest day doing a mixture of cardio and aquatic workouts in water along with crunches, push-ups, triceps dips, lunges and squats.

Mariah Carey explains jab wasn't about Kim Kardashian

When Mariah Carey sat down with Gayle King to announce she is the new face and body of she also opened up a bit about her personal life, including life as a new mom to "dem babies", cooking for her famous friends and married life.

When asked how she and Nick Cannon keep their marriage strong, she explained, "There's no teams; me and Nick are the same team always. Sometimes we make each other mad. That's why we're not divorced after four months. I'm just saying this Hollywood thing... did I say something that is wrong?"

The statement had many in the room laughing, given the fact that Kim Kardashian recently made headlines for breaking up with her hubby, Kris Humphries, after even less time. However, Carey insisted she wasn't referring to anyone in particular.

"First of all, I don't read the tabloids unless it's about me. And even then, when it is about me, I try not to read it unless it's good," Carey told "Extra". "I don't look at these people. I don't even know what it is, but I do know that marriages come and go really quickly in Hollywood."

Carey famously divorced record executive Tommy Mattola in 1998, and the pop star says when she married Cannon in 2008, she did it with the intention of staying married. "A lot of people have high-profile moments, and then they get a divorce, and I'm sure it's very painful for them," she said. "My thing is: I don't want that. I got married to stay married. I want some stability for our kids, and Nick feels the same way. Not only are we both kind of jokesters, for the lack of a better word, we are also kind of provincial in that way. I think we both believe in trying to make it through. I'm proud of it."

Mariah Carey: Pregnancy made my voice stronger

Mariah Carey is known for her five-octave range, and she says her voice has gotten stronger, thanks to pregnancy.

The 42-year-old gave birth to fraternal twins in April via C-section. She recently lost 30 pounds by following the Jenny Craig diet, and says the process has enhanced her vocals.

"Right now I feel like pregnancy actually helped me vocally," Carey said in an interview Wednesday. "At this moment my voice is in great shape."

The Grammy winner is also working on new music, which she said is partly inspired by her pregnancy.

Carey made the comments as she was announced as the new brand ambassador for Jenny Craig, which is now called Jenny. The singer said after giving birth she was "approached by a lot of different companies," but that the folks at Jenny "understood me."

During her pregnancy Carey dealt with gestational diabetes and toxemia. She says "you couldn't make me go through that again.

"I knew I was going to gain weight during the pregnancy, but I didn't think about the pain the weight would cause," she said. "I didn't know if I was going to be able to walk again ... I couldn't get up out of my chair alone."

Carey said in addition to eating right, she worked out a lot, though husband Nick Cannon wasn't her partner in that sense.

"He's in great shape and he can eat anything he wants (and) I'm jealous of that," she said. "But sometimes I'm glad 'cause he has candy by the bed, and I'll sneak one of his little candies."

Carey says her involvement with Jenny — which supports the American Heart Association's "My Heart. My Life." initiative — stretches beyond just helping women bounce back from weight gain during pregnancy.

"We just lost Heavy D," she said of the rapper who collapsed and died Tuesday. "I considered him my friend and ... he was (in his) early 40s, so it's serious. It's really serious."

Mariah on Good Morning America tomorrow!

After becoming a mom, Mariah Carey shed the equivalent of a small child.

Carey, 41, bares her flat belly and toned legs on the latest cover of Us Weekly, touting her new role as the spokeswoman for the Jenny (formerly Jenny Craig). In an interview with the magazine, she crowed about dropping 30-pounds since giving birth to twins Moroccan and Monroe in April.

“I’m proud of how hard I worked to get my body back,” she said. “I had to do this for me.”

But on OWN’s Rosie Show Tuesday, Carey said she lost 70 pounds following the birth of her twins. Carey explained that 40 pounds of that was water weight from her difficult pregnancy.

“In the beginning, when I first had the babies, I had so much edema… water and swelling. Most pregnant woman have that just in their feet,” she said.

The other 30 pounds dropped off with a combination of diet and exercise. Beginning in July, Carey adopted a Jenny-certified diet and workout plan, consuming no more than 1,500 calories a day and working out three times a week.

Now, she told Us Weekly, “I feel incredible.” Catch Carey on Good Morning America Thursday where she’ll talk more about her weight loss.

Mariah Graces The Cover Of US Weekly!

“Shake It Off,” indeed!

Six months after welcoming twins Moroccan and Monroe, Mariah Carey has lost 30 pounds — and shows off her toned legs and flat stomach in size-6 short-shorts on the stunning new cover of Us Weekly, out now.

“I gained an enormous amount of weight,” the Grammy-winner superstar tells Us of welcoming her son and daughter April 30 with hubby Nick Cannon.

How’d she slim down? Beginning in July, Carey buckled down with a nutritionist and a workout plan from Jenny (formerly Jenny Craig), keeping to a 1,500-calorie-a-day menu and thrice-weekly workouts.

“I feel incredible,” the “Fly Like a Bird” singer tells Us, three months after her body transformation began. She and Cannon, 31, famously struggled to conceive their twins (born via C-section at 35 weeks) after a heartbreaking miscarriage.

“It was a huge blessing to be able to have the babies,” Carey says, “But I felt trapped in my body because I couldn’t move.”

Adds the once-again svelte star: “I’m proud of how hard I worked to get my body back…I had to do this for me.”

Mariah: I Lost 70 Pounds After Twins

Mariah Carey wasn’t shy about showing off her baby bump when she was pregnant with now-6-month-old twins Moroccan and Monroe Cannon.

And now, she’s positively ecstatic about unveiling her hot new post-baby body after losing, she says, a full 70 lbs.

On Tuesday’s episode of The Rosie Show on OWN, Carey, 42, was lowered diva-style onto the stage riding on a crescent moon and wearing a skin-tight black mini-skirt and cleavage-baring leather jacket.

She then explained her new physique was courtesy of a strict diet and exercise – along with the loss of what she says is about 40 lbs. of water due to a difficult pregnancy.

“In the beginning, when I first had the babies, I had so much edema … water and swelling. Most pregnant woman have that just in their feet,” Carey says. “One day I was doing my thank-you notes and I noticed it started rising up the leg, so I had edema. … I didn’t think I would ever be the same person.”

Diet Plan Spokeswoman

Once she’d shed the water weight, Carey embarked on the Jenny diet plan (formerly Jenny Craig), for which she now serves as a spokeswoman.

“The first week, I lost 40 lbs. … of just water,” Carey says. “It was just water, initially. When I started with the program, I lost at least 30 lbs. of weight that needed to be lost.”

And, says Carey, it wasn’t all about appearance. Carrying so much extra weight made everyday tasks, including going to the bathroom, a challenge.

“I had a really tough pregnancy,” she says. “I was supposed to be on bed rest, but it was so bad that even bed hurt. … I learned a lot being pregnant, watching my body change.”

She adds, “The whole point of this is not just like: ‘Oh, hey, look at me and my weight loss, I’m fantastic.’ It’s really health. Like I said, I learned it when I became helpless and felt so vulnerable like never before in my life.”

How She Did It

Because she had a Cesarean section, Carey says exercise wasn’t an option early on. So, she says, “The diet is 90 percent of it.”

Remembering to eat was one of her biggest challenges because, she says, she believes if she goes too long without refueling, “You slow down your metabolism.”

For her, it was important “being able to just grab something. I like the soups a lot. It’s 50 calories. I gotta say I like the snacks too.”

Carey also regained her fitness by exercising with her dogs and doing workouts in the ocean.

One thing she won’t stick with once she meets her goal.

“I never weighed myself,” she explains. “People will think I’m a liar but it’s true. This is another cliché phrase, I’m a big boned girl … I’m tall and so I always weigh more.”

Instead of weighing herself, she says, “I would tend to go, ‘Does this size dress fit me that I wore three years ago? I’m good, let’s go.’ I would go by what it looked like, how I felt.”
