Hip-hop manager Chris Lighty dies

The hip-hop community is mourning the loss of one of its pioneers. Manager Chris Lighty has died after reportedly committing suicide. Hip-hop journalist TourĂ© tweeted that Lighty shot himself. "Chris Lighty, smart and successful record exec, and an undeniably great guy, is dead. Self inflicted gunshot wound. Tragic," he wrote.
As founder and owner of Violator Management, Lighty was instrumental in the careers of superstars including 50 Cent, Diddy, and Mariah Carey. Some of his friends took to Twitter to express their sympathy. "R.I.P Chris Lighty, the man that saved my life," tweeted Fat Joe. "I would be nothing without you. My kids appreciate you. God bless Chris Lighty."
Nick Cannon also expressed his sadness. "I'm devastated right now. I can't believe my big brother Chris Lighty is gone. He was a pioneer, a mentor, and a great friend. RIP."

Mariah Carey Gives Baby Pictures to Fans, Not Tabloids

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have decided not to sell their baby pictures to tabloids. Instead, they’ve essentially given them away to fans on Mariah’s website. At the same time, they’re asking publications and others who want copies to buy them from dembabies.com, where proceeds will go to Mariah’s Fresh Air Fund Camp.
This lovely act of altruism is certainly a first, as we’re expecting pictures of Snooki’s baby, Lorenzo, to be flogged somewhere any minute. (Not to say there’s any comparison between Mariah and Snooki.)
Mariah has been running Camp Mariah for about twenty years through good times and bad, and has taken it pretty seriously. You can read about it at www.freshairfund.org. We’re running a picture from the website here on our site, so we’re sending a check to the Fresh Air Fund immediately. Nice stuff, Nick and Mariah!

Social worker fired for sparking Mariah CPS investigation

A social worker claims she was fired by Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center after she refused to "protect the image of a celebrity mother" when she called in a report to the Department of Child and Family Services upon learning that the mom breastfed her premature twins while drinking alcohol and taking medication. The social worker, Mela Ferrer, is suing for wrongful termination, claiming that the hospital feared that her report would deter other celebrities from using their facilities.
The complaint doesn't name Mariah Carey specifically, but she gave birth at UCLA to her twins on April 30, 2011, and the investigation was widely reported in the media after Carey's husband Nick Cannon gave an interview on Piers Morgan Tonight on May 12. He dismissed the report as someone's attempt to make some tabloid cash, saying of the allegations:
"It makes no sense. How would a hospital even allow that? It all started where a nurse suggested to my wife that if you drink Guinness or a small amount of Guinness, the dark beer, that the yeast improves breastfeeding. Then they were saying that my wife was drinking beer and all that stuff. It's like people would do anything to conjure up a story."
Ferrer's complaint states: "Some of the medications the celebrity mother was taking were not recommended and/or were contraindicated for use by nursing mothers and/or in combination with alcohol."
After interviewing Carey in her home and spending time with the couple's twins, DCFS ultimately concluded that the report was without merit. But Ferrer - who was working at the hospital on temporary assignment - says she was "a mandated reporter" and was obligated to report the matter to DCFS, which she did on May 10, 2011. She says that she was reprimanded the next day by a hospital supervisor for not consulting anyone before filing the report and was fired on May 12 "under the pretense of not following protocol". Ferrer claims that the hospital did not have any rules or procedures regarding filing complaints to DCFS and, in her complaint, accuses the facility of protecting the reputation of its celebrity clientele over the interest of the infants. She's seeking "punitive damages for wrongful termination, violation of several state laws, breach of confidentiality and/or privacy, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and age discrimination".

Exclusive: Nicki Minaj Joins Mariah Carey as New American Idol Judge

Nicki Minaj and her multiple personas will be joining Mariah Carey at the judges' table on American Idol, two sources confirm to Us Weekly exclusively.
"I'm not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it," one insider reveals. "A few more slight things to sign off on but it is happening."
A second source says the "Super Bass" rapper, 29, is "100% confirmed to judge American Idol." Reps for FOX and Minaj had no comment when contacted by Us.

Minaj  born Onika Tanya Maraj toured North America with Britney Spears throughout 2011; she will embark on her own world tour beginning October 21 in Nottingham, England. The rapper's latest album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, debuted at No. 1 in April 2012 and spawned two Top 10 singles, "Starships" and "Pound the Alarm."
On July 23, five-time Grammy Award winner Mariah Carey confirmed she will appear as a judge on American Idol next season. "As a singer, songwriter and producer, it's going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol," the singer said in a statement. "I can't wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon."

As Us exclusively reported in late July, Nick Jonas, 19, is also in the running to fill one of the vacant seats at the judges' table. (Randy Jackson, 56, is being moved into a "mentoring role," according to a source.)
The "Who I Am" singer later confirmed the news via Twitter. "I am being considered to be a judge on American Idol," Jonas wrote. "And it would be a dream come true if it happens." N.E.R.D. rapper Pharrell Williams, 39, is also being considered, according to insiders.

Previous American Idol judges include Simon Cowell, 52, Paula Abdul, 50, Jennifer Lopez, 43, Steven Tyler, 64, Kara DioGuardi, 41, and Ellen DeGeneres, 54. Host Ryan Seacrest, 37, is slated to return for Season 12, premiering this winter.

Vote For Mariah To Be Honored at MTV Awards

This year, MTV could fete any of the eight acts below:

Aerosmith
Beyonce
Mariah Carey is one of the music successful artists to come out the nineties. While she has won five Grammys and 11 American Music Awards but has never won an MTV Video Music Award. She has been nominated three times for Best Female Video, four times for Best R&B Video and once for Best Hip-Hop Video. It was just announced that she will be a judge on next season’s "American Idol" and it is possible she will attend this year's VMAs to promote that gig. I predict she will be part of a tribute to Whitney Houston. It would be a good time for MTV to bestow upon Mariah this long overdue honor.
Eminem
Green Day
Jay-Z
No Doubt
Justin Timberlake

Big Mariah Performance Coming "Soon"

Mariah Carey and No Doubt are superstar acts, but they’ll be the openers for the NFL’s first game of the season on September 5th.

Carey and No Doubt are set to perform live from Rockefeller Plaza before the New York Giants-Dallas Cowboys game at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The hourlong pregame show will air at 7:30 p.m. EDT on NBC.

Carey says she’s thrilled to be performing in New York — which she called her hometown — and adds she’s looking forward to making the season launch “even more festive.”

No Doubt drummer and New Orleans Saints fan Adrian Young says he’s excited to take part, and noted that the band performed at Super Bowl in 2003.

Carey recently released the single “Triumphant (Get ‘Em).” No Doubt’s new album, “Push and Shove,” is out Sept. 25.

FOR THE NOSTALGIA!!!
