Mariah and the meaning of Christmas

You might think that Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ or if you're going to hell, you might think it's about love, or giving, or family. For us, Christmas is about excessive chocolate eating and admiring Mariah Carey's luscious orbs, which were on full display at New York City's Rockefeller Center's annual tree lighting ceremony (produced by Liz Lemon).
Wearing a low-cut, satin embellished number and some soaring silver peep toes, Carey belted out her 1994 holiday hit "All I Want For Christmas Is You", to which our founding editor naturally replied, "signed, sealed, delivered I'm... errr, married". "Dammit," he added.
Carey, 40, has been all about showing off her assets this year, including this rather revealing outfit back in May. Anyway, there's clearly no time like the present to get into Mimi's cleavage, by which of course we mean "the holiday spirit". Boy-oy-oy-yoing! Merry Christmas to all!

Mariah Carey flaunts her cleavage

Mariah Carey shows off her cracking curves as she turns on the Christmas lights in New York. The curvaceous diva flaunted her full-on cleavage in a low-cut red satin-embellished dress. She teamed the festive frock with skyscraping silver peeptoe platforms and long red gloves.
Mariah, 42, took to the stage at New York City's Rockefeller centre for the annual tree lighting ceremony. She was joined on stage by a jolly looking santa as she belted out her holiday anthem All I Want For Christmas Is You to a crowd of waiting fans.
The song is a longstanding favourite at this time of year, remaining popular with fans across the world 18-years on from its original release on November 1 1994. It has since had global sales of over 12 million copies, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time.
The performance - alongside Mariah's rendition of O Holy Night - was being recorded for a televised show which airs on NBC in the US tonight. A whole host of other stars will appear on the programme - including Rod Stewart and CeeLo Green.
The Rockefeller Christmas tree is topped with a Swarovski crystal embellished star which consists of 25, 000 stones, weighing a huge 550lbs.

Mariah Carey rings in the holidays with new single

Pop diva Mariah Carey announced her next single for the holiday season on Monday. She will ring in the festive time of the year with the soulful "Christmas Time is in the Air Again". "Christmas Time is in the Air Again" is one of the songs from Carey's 2010 Merry Christmas II You album. It's a light ballad about falling in love during the holidays. Several minor embellishments like bells and chimes make track all the more festive as Mariah sings it smooth vocals. There is a definite warmth in her delivery.
Carey is promoting the song with a contest that allows fans to create their own Christmas cards for her. While "Christmas Time is in the Air Again" is beginning to warm up on iTunes, Mariah's hit, "All I Want for Christmas is You", shines bright atop the holiday songs chart.
When Christmas passes, Carey will serve as one of the new judges on American Idol's twelfth season in January.

Mariah Carey celebrates Turkey Day

While Halle Berry's fiance Olivier Martinez and her former lover Gabriel Aubry got into a "brutal" fight on Thanksgiving Day, elsewhere in the celeb world it was all good, with some of our favourite stars stuffing their face with turkey and generally being pretty thankful for what they've got.
Hollywood was awash with warm fuzzy messages of love and thanks as some of the biggest stars in the US set their diets aside and tucked into some traditional food. As you'd expect the Kardashian family went all out for the holidays, with Kylie Jenner tweeting a sneak preview of the lavishly decorated table.
With rumours that Kanye West would be Kim's date to the family dinner we're not surprised Kris Jenner pulled out all the stops and clearly it worked. After the meal, Kim tweeted: "Thanksgiving dinner at my moms is beyond delish."
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon enjoyed an intimate family dinner, with Nick tweeting pics of the couple cooking up a storm in the kitchen, telling his fans: "So blessed to have such an amazing family!" Mariah stuffing her own turkey - who'd believe it! Another star who didn't mind getting her hands dirty in the kitchen is mum of two Jessica Alba. The stunning star showed off her mid-turkey preparations and despite not wearing a scrap of make-up and having her hand up a bird, Jess still managed to look pretty stunning.

Moroccan follows in his parents' musical footsteps

The apple clearly doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's family. The couple's cute little twin son Moroccan followed in his parents' musical footsteps on Thanksgiving Day, as he sat happily at the piano, plonking away on the keys.

Rapper Nick posted the adorable family snap on Twitter on Thursday, as families across America spent time quality time with their loved ones - and gorged on turkey. Nick also shared a snap of the lavish spread put on at the home he shares with American Idol judge Mariah and their 19-month-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe.

The family had some competition from other celebrity families when it came to their Thanksgiving Day spread - with the Kardashians keen to ensure they were not outdone by their famous peers.

"My little supermodel"

With both parents in showbiz, it's no wonder Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon’s daughter Monroe already a natural in front of the camera. Proud father Nick took a series of snaps of the 19-month-old girl while at home on daddy duty and decided to share the shots with his followers on Instagram. Clearly besotted by the toddler, he titled the post: "My little supermodel."
It seems Monroe's twin brother was otherwise occupied as he didn't feature in the impromptu photo shoot. Monroe looked just adorable in a matching head-to-toe baby pink outfit which was topped off with a beret. This week Nick, 32, revealed he's a much more hands on parent than his wife Mariah, 42, when it comes to changing diapers.
Speaking about his family life on Anderson Live, he said: "It's a good time! Right now, the kids run the house. We are just running and chasing after them and then my wife is being the diva that she is. I am trying to keep up with them."
When the newsman asked if the Glitter favourite was "a big diaper changer" and "who changes the most?" Nick's response was perhaps no surprise. He gave a hearty laugh as he said, "Me", raising incredulous guffaws from Anderson. The America's Got Talent host added: "I mean we all do it but for some reason I get that duty a little bit more. I am not scared of it. I go in, I put the gloves on. Real men change diapers!"
Nick and Mariah became parents in April of last year after three years of marriage. Meanwhile, the singer has just finished auditions for season 12 of American Idol, set to air in two months. And it seems the high-profile feud between Mariah and fellow judge Nicki Minaj in early October has simmered down. "Mariah and Nicki sat next to each other yesterday," an Idol source said Thursday. "There really is some great chemistry among all the judges."

Mariah Carey cheers on husband Nick

Mariah Carey's got it so why not flaunt it? The Grammy-winning singer is as famous for her bountiful assets as she is for hitting the high notes, and the slinky black gown she wore to Nickelodeon's 2012 TeenNick HALO Awards on Saturday proved that point.
Mariah was there to support her husband, Nick Cannon, who hosted the celebrity-studded event at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, but that low-cut black dress very nearly stole the show from under him. With those off-the-shoulder sleeves and too-tight bodice, Mariah's cleavage looked ready to spill over and not even the pearl and chain necklace could camouflage it. Mariah's dress fitted snugly from the waist to the hips where it flared out into a shining sea of black material.
With it's flowing train lingering after Mariah's heels, Nick had to watch his step on the orange carpet for fear of muddying or even tearing it. But then the America's Got Talent host is used to playing second fiddle to his beautiful wife and seems to prefer it, indulging in her every whim.
Upon arriving to the venue, Nick happily posed for photographers with Mariah, but then he let her have her few minutes alone in the spotlight. Once inside the auditorium, Mariah was hands on the most devoted wife in the house, nuzzling Nick with her cheek and giving him kisses. He, in turn, graciously stood by while Mariah, a newly appointed judge on American Idol, autographed T-shirts for fans.
The couple has been blissfully happy since they wed on April 30, 2007, and then became a family of four last year after the birth of twins, a girl and a boy. But speaking on Anderson Live, Nick, 31, told the host that he's usually the one stuck with changing Monroe and Moroccan's nappies. "I mean we all do it but for some reason I get that duty a little bit more," Nick said. "I am not scared of it. I go in, I put the gloves on. Real men change diapers!"

Biggest No. 2 Hits Ever: The Top 40 Hot 100 Tunes To Not Hit No. 1

This week, Billboard counts down the "biggest #2 hits ever" - the top 40 Hot 100 songs to not hit #1. Mariah makes this list with "Shake It Off," which spent 6 weeks at #2, peaking on September 10, 2005. The #1 single that week was "We Belong Together." This was only the fifth time in chart history that the same artist occupied the top 2 spots on the Hot 100. See the complete list here.

American Idol judges are all smiles in new image

It's a wrap! American Idol's new judging panel just finished auditions for Season 12, and viewers will see which contestants earned golden tickets when the show debuts in exactly two months. A Fox rep confirms that judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, along with returning judge Randy Jackson and host Ryan Seacrest, completed the last round of auditions on Wednesday and Thursday aboard the Queen Mary, which is docked in Long Beach, Calif.
Next up for the judges - who are all smiles alongside Seacrest in an exclusive new Idol photo - is Hollywood Week, when they will whittle down the contestant pool to determine which singers will move on to the live shows. Despite an on-set spat between Carey and Minaj during auditions in Charlotte, N.C., in early October, the judges have been getting along well during this latest round.
"Mariah and Nicki sat next to each other yesterday," an Idol source said Thursday. "There really is some great chemistry among all the judges." The new panel has been working long hours, adds the source, but "they've found what they think is some seriously superstar talent out there".
The Long Beach set had its fill of special, expressive moments too, such as when an 8-year-old girl showed up dressed like Minaj - complete with a pink and blue wig - to support her auditioning aunt. "Nicki told her she loved her color palette and talked to her about how important it is stay in school," says the source. "The little girl sang 'Starships' for Nicki, who let the girl and her brother sit on her lap for the audition. It was really cute."
The new season of Idol makes its debut over two nights, on January 16 and 17.

"American Idol" and "The Voice" might be rivals in the singing-competition arena, but the two shows will come together - sort of - for the Christmas season. "Voice" coach Cee Lo Green and Mariah Carey - who begins her stint as an "American Idol" judge when the show returns in January - will both be on hand to perform on NBC's 15th Annual "Christmas in Rockefeller Center", the annual celebration of the lighting of the Christmas tree in New York's Rockefeller Center.
Rod Stewart, Trace Adkins, Victoria Justice, former "Voice" competitor Chris Mann and Italian pop-opera (or popera, if you wish) trio Il Volo will also perform on the special, which airs November 28 at 8 p.m. In addition to the musical talent, Billy Crystal and Bette Midler will make special appearances on the special. "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie and the show's weatherman Al Roker will co-host the special.

Queen of the divas Mariah Carey Down Under

Doyenne of the divas Mariah Carey has confirmed her first Australian tour in 15 years and will arrive here in just over a month. Confidential can exclusively reveal the new American Idol judge will ring in the New Year in Sydney, with a concert at Allphones Arena on January 3.
One of the highest-selling female artists of all time - moving more than 200 million albums across her 20 year career - the 43-year-old New Yorker has promised her return to Oz will please patient fans. After all, she hasn't staged a local tour since her Butterfly world tour in 1998, which featured a cameo from Olivia Newton-John for a Hopelessly Devoted To You duet.
"It's going to be a very high-production show, featuring all her greatest hits and some of her Christmas songs," concert promoter Mark Rafter from Retfar Entertainment said. Confidential understands Rafter and partner company UAE Presents have spent most of the year securing Carey for the performances, which will also head to Jupiters on the Gold Coast on January 1. The show is expected to match the level of extravagance of Jennifer Lopez's first-ever Australian tour next month, featuring special effects, lots of back-up dancers and big numbers.
Rafter said they were not concerned about Carey's notorious rider requests (she is said to have once asked for 20 white kittens and 100 white doves when she opened a shopping mall in London). "We don't take any of those into consideration (when booking a show)" he said. "In saying that, we're ready for anything."
Tickets will start at $99 and go to VIP seating for $699, which of course includes a meet-and-great. Tickets for the Carey spectacular will go on sale on Thursday November 22.

Nicki Minaj tells her side of Mariah Carey feud

Nicki Minaj opened up about her feud with fellow "American Idol" judge Mariah Carey on part two of her E! special "Nicki Minaj: My Truth" on Sunday. The rapper weighed in on Carey telling Barbara Walters that Minaj was overheard saying on the show, "If I had a gun, I would shoot the b**ch."
Minaj revealed, "I really felt good when I left the set yesterday, and then I hear that Mariah went to Barbara Walters with some more fabrication that even the American Idol producers had told her were never said." The "Starships" singer added that she's too smart to make such a violent threat, and that she was "in shock" when she got wind of Carey's statements.
Minaj went on to explain that she didn't speak out about her and Carey's on-set spat because she "wanted everything to blow over", but then Carey began talking to outlets about the fight, giving the public a one-sided perception of what actually happened.
Addressing Walters, Minaj asks, "Am I not good enough for you to get my side of the story? Because I'm a little black girl that raps? If I was J.Lo, you would have called J.Lo's camp. Are we not good enough for you Barbara? You don't f**kin' know me."
She then goes on to discuss the Carey feud, explaining, "Why would I want to have a rift with someone that I've looked up to my whole life? Like I've loved her... and I even told her that. I'm happy that Mariah's on the panel," calling Carey "one of the best singers in the world".

Claim: Mariah begs Bobbi, "Don't end up like Whitney"

Bobbi Kristina Brown "seems to be without parental guidance" in the wake of her mother Whitney Houston's death, reports Star, which goes on to claim, "One person is stepping up to keep the teen clean: Mariah Carey!"
"Mariah decided it was time for some tough love," a so-called "insider" tells the tabloid, adding, Carey and Brown had "a pretty harsh conversation, and they both ended up in tears". So, what exactly did the two supposedly talk about?
"Carey told Krissy straight up that she knows she's not living right," says the mag's source, who offers no other specifics regarding the alleged discussion. Still, that doesn't stop Star's "insider" from opining, "Hopefully it had some sort of impact, because Krissy needs to make some serious changes."
Enough. Brown, of course, is still grieving the shocking loss of her mother, and there are going to be bumps in the road. But this supposed tearful confrontation with Carey over her alleged behavior is complete fiction and never happened. A rep for Carey tells Gossip Cop that Star's story is "not true at all".

Nicki Minaj: I'd perform with Mariah on American Idol

The Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey drama on American Idol may make for good television, but that doesn't mean it's all bad blood between the two. Minaj says she'd be up for performing with Carey on Idol. "I would do that," Minaj told me this morning while promoting Nicki Minaj: My Truth, her new three-part reality special on E! "I think people would be interested in seeing that."
That's an understatement! I also suggested she open a museum to showcase all her fashions and wigs. "That's a good idea," the singer said. "I think you're on to something." Cameras started following Nicki's every move when she began putting together her upcoming album reissue, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded: The Re-Up. "My fans get so excited whenever they get to see what goes on behind the scenes," she said. "I wanted to show how it is really is."
And nothing was off limits. "Even when I'm doing things like changing wigs or looking raggedy, fans have never seen that. It's real," the Idol judge said, adding, "I'm going to tell the truth about a lot of things. There's a lot of wrong things said about me that I don't usually say anything about, but now I am."  She's also ready for some acting. "I want to do something like a small action movie," she said. With President Barack Obama a self-proclaimed fan, Minaj joked that she'll probably send him an early release of Re-Up before it goes on sale later this month.
"My fans are so crazy," she said with a laugh. "They were saying they wanted the president to come out last night with my song 'Freedom' playing." That may not have happened, but at least we know it'll probably end up on his iPod. The second installment of Nicki Minaj: My Truth airs on E! on Sunday at 10:30 p.m./9:30 p.m. CT.

Mariah Carey drops Obama song, "Bring It On Home"

Mariah Carey capped a happy night of watching President Barack Obama secure a second term by releasing a celebratory song, called "Bring It On Home". Premiering on Global14.com, producer Jermaine Dupri's website, Carey first performed the slow jam track at a campaign event earlier this year.
"We just everyday people trying to make it through the pain," she sings in the song's lone verse. "Yet we intentionally hurt each other playing silly games. But when it comes down to win or lose, don't give up the fight. Strength is what we need, and love can save our lives." She cautions, "So when you're down and frustrated let em all keep debating because we gonna win."
The rest of the song is a series of gospel-tinged chants of declarations like "I know we can bring it home!" and "Bring it, bring it, bring it," and at one point (02:25) Carey breaks out her trademark high-pitched whistle.
Carey reveled in Obama's victory in a series of tweets throughout Tuesday night. Earlier, she posted several photos showing her at her polling place. "Congratulations to our beloved President Barack Obama, our spectacular First Lady Michelle Obama and the adorable Malia and Sasha," she wrote. "We love you!"
After watching Obama's acceptance speech well past midnight, she offered this review: "Incredible speech. Watching in a room full of diverse people-all truly moved. Thank you America for President Obama - 4 more years."

Mariah Carey releases "Bring It On Home"

Mariah Carey wasted no time showing her support for the re-elected President Obama on Wednesday morning. The singing legend uploaded an original tune she wrote during the campaign called "Bring It On Home" just hours after the results were in.
The song is in the R&B ballad style, with Carey in fine voice, and the lyrics make it clear it will be a show stopper at the next round of inaugural balls come January 20. The pop diva even graces the track with her signature "whistle" at the end as a gospel choir carries the chorus. The hypnotic tune stands a good chance of being a hit in its own right, possibly approaching classic status.
It's a fitting tribute, but Mariah Carey didn't stop there. According to an article published by Digital Spy on Wednesday, she put her happy thoughts down on Twitter, tweeting "Congratulations to our beloved President Barack Obama, our spectacular First Lady Michelle Obama and the adorable Malia and Sasha. We love you!"
Lots of celebrities piled on to the web right after the Obama win was announced, but, so far, only Mariah Carey has managed to capture the exhilaration of the moment in song.

Michelle Obama, Mariah and company try to close the deal

Election eve in North Carolina had it all, entertainment, sports and the first lady. In a lineup that included the NBA's Derek Fisher and diva Mariah Carey in a gown so form-fitting she needed an assist up the stairs to the microphone, it was Michelle Obama who closed the show on Monday as she asked the crowd, "Are we ready to work for this?"
In 2008, it was candidate Barack Obama making a last-minute North Carolina stop - an emotional speech at University of North Carolina at Charlotte that paid tribute to his grandmother, who died the day before his election. It was one of many appearances in a state perhaps only he was confident he could win. While this year he's off to tighter battlegrounds higher on the list of must-wins, and polls, though tight, show a slight lean in challenger Mitt Romney's direction here, a Tar Heel trifecta that started on Friday with Jill Biden, continued on Sunday with Bill Clinton and ended with the most popular member of the Obama family shows the president holds hope of a repeat.
On Monday, after emerging from a plane that taxied and halted movie-like beside the hangar and taking the stage in front of a giant American flag, Michelle Obama told the 4,500 crowded into a hangar at Charlotte Douglas International Airport to vote, volunteer and "get to that one person" who hasn't made it to the polls. She reminded them that Obama's narrow 14,000-vote win in North Carolina in 2008 amounted to just five votes per precinct. She said it would be even closer than the last time - "own that".
The crowd shouted love and support and the occasional "hallelujah" as she talked about her husband's accomplishments and plans for the economy, health care and education. "We've been making real and meaningful progress," she said. And when it comes to women's rights, she said, "We know that Barack will always have our backs."
Michelle Obama is no stranger here. She's been a major draw at colleges and universities and co-starred with North Carolina-raised singer-songwriter James Taylor at fundraisers. Monday was her first time back in Charlotte since her Democratic National Convention moment in September. Her voice lowered and the crowd grew silent on Monday when she got personal about "this man", who "knows the American dream because he's lived it". She called the president "a man whose courage and integrity we have seen every day for the past four years".
The first lady has the gift of praising Obama without mentioning his challenger by name, but she stepped up to the line when she talked of the first couple's belief "that the truth matters". In America, she said, teachers and firefighters should not have to pay higher taxes than millionaires and billionaires. "You know what I'm talking about."
Mariah Carey, known more for high notes and blockbuster sales than political commentary, had to fend off an admirer shouting her name during her opening remarks. She shared the story that the Obamas were the first to know she was pregnant with twins when she whispered the news to them at an event. The president, she said, "has such strong women around him", and he fights for them every day. The Obama campaign hasn't minded the criticism of piling on the star power in North Carolina - from Russell Simmons to Alicia Keyes - if it helps energize young and urban voters.
In record early voting, from October 18 through November 3, registered Democrats retained a lead, though Republicans turned out in force as well. In 2008, Obama banked enough early votes to overcome John McCain's Election Day edge. The number of unaffiliated voters casting early ballots also increased. According to the Obama campaign, volunteers have scheduled more than 11,000 individual shifts for Tuesday's get-out-the-vote effort.
Romney supporters say enthusiasm is on their side, and - perhaps in a show of confidence or to steer resources to bigger state prizes - no high-profile GOP surrogates included North Carolina on their weekend agendas.
Linda Bain, a retired New York City educator, has spent the last few months in Charlotte - where she has friends and relatives - registering voters in strip malls and phone banking for the Obama campaign. She missed Hurricane Sandy's sweep through her hometown, and appreciated the first lady's opening remarks of concern and pledge of help. "The government plays a major, major role in restoring people's lives," Bain said, and FEMA has to be a priority.
"The president has so much more to offer our country," said Bain, who was seeing Michelle Obama in person for the first time. "She's bright, she's personable and she loves this country. She loves connecting with people." Bain didn't have such kind words for GOP politicians who have offered opinions on "legitimate" rape and restrictions on women's health policies. "They need to be reminded that they were born of women" she said.
Eighteen-month-old Gwendolyn Helton-Theriot paid less attention to the first lady than women in the crowd who took turns holding her and making her laugh. Her father, Rick Theriot, who appreciated the help, said of Michelle Obama, "She rocks!" When Theriot complimented President Obama - "He stands for equality" - his wife, Crystal Helton, added, "And women's rights."
"It's my reproductive system, and it's between me, my God and my husband." She called Michelle Obama "a strong, smart woman and a great inspiration for lower-income people who think you can't get an education; she's proof you can". Helton said she and her husband have stopped trying to convince the Republicans surrounding them in their Belmont, N.C., neighborhood to vote for Obama. ""Honestly," Helton said, "it's because he's black... and they don't think he's American."
Standing nearby, Bessie Rhodes of Gastonia lamented that kind of sentiment, but proudly showed off a picture of her great-grandson Barack Norris. Rhodes, a retired tire plant worker - "union, for Obama" - said Barack Norris will turn 4 on November 14. "He's smart like Obama," she said. She's hoping that his birthday celebration will also mark the reelection of the president he was named for in 2008, and that Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx (D) is right in his feeling that, as he said on Monday, North Carolina will "shock the world again".

Mariah Carey, 'American Idol' Judge, Upset Nicki Minaj Blowup Video Was Leaked

Mariah Carey isn't upset that things got heated between Nicki Minaj and her on the set of "American Idol", but she is upset that a tape of the incident was leaked to the media. "Mariah has been in the business for a long time and has seen it all but never has she had anything leaked from a closed set," a friend of Carey said. "The fact that the producers are not searching to find out how this footage and audio got leaked tells you who was behind it."
The shocking footage comes from auditions in Charlotte, N.C, on a private set on which only authorized personnel were allowed. Security around the taping of "Idol" has been high since the show debuted, and contestants are asked to sign confidentiality agreements.
"The producers know that the show needs PR to make it must-see TV again and this won't be the first or the last leak," one "Idol" expert tells me. "You don't think every 'Idol' scandal in the past 12 years didn't come from within their walls? Corey Clark, Scott Savol's arrest records, even Philip Phillips' kidney issues. I guarantee all that stuff was leaked on purpose for publicity."
Reps for Minaj, Carey and "American Idol" had no comment. However, host Ryan Seacrest, who was just outside the room during the incident, said on his radio show, "Yesterday it got heated. It was intense, I'll be honest with you."
"Mariah is a perfectionist and is used to being in control of her image," a TV producer who has worked with the singer tells me. "I'm sure she is shocked and disappointed that this happened, but it won't stop her doing her job."
